Deal Generator User Guide
Load all Recipe and LIN Files from Folder panel
This is one of several user guides on specific topics. The directory for all user guides is here.
This panel lets you select a folder. The program will then read every .bcoarecipe and .lin file in that folder and its subfolders.
It copies each recipe to the recipe collection (see the Collections panel in the lower left of the page).
It copies each deal from .lin files to the deal collection. Deal filtering is in effect, so if you want to be selective about which deals go into the collection, set up your deal filter before loading files from the folder.
Why?
One reason for loading a folder of recipes to a collection is to then save it off as a .bcoasmorgasbord file. That type of file is handy for use when you want to select one recipe from among many, perhaps if you are doing some kind of bridge practice drill where you want to see deals from designed scenarios in random order. More on that here.
Another reason for loading a folder of recipes to a collection is to then save it off as an automatically generated web page, or cookbook. More here.
Loading a folder of deal files into a collection is a handy way of combining multiple deal files into one. Also, you can use deal filters to control which deals you add to the collection. Since deal filters work off of board number, the rationale for selectively loading deals is based on how many deals you want from each file, as well as what you know about how the deal .lin files were constructed—that is, what makes one board number or group of board numbers preferable to others?
